Two views of a card from the Wood family collection of South Australia
preserved by the late Judith Lloyd (1936-2003).
The year of this New Year Card is probably 1890.
The first view is of the front cover, and the second shows it opened up – the children move across the card as it is opened. Behind each head is written a name: behind the little boy is “Frank” (Frank Wood was born 27 July 2025), on the girl with the pink fan is “Annie” (Annie Wood 1887-1963, married Tim Parkinson).
Gertie is facing the rear of the cart – in the family albums there are photos of Gertie who was a friend of the Wood family at Willowie.
However, it is a purchased card so the names of the Wood children are a nice fantasy provided by their parents or on the part of the giver. It could well be a parent (maybe Gertie’s ?) or friend who gave it.
