Thomas Wood (born in Midley, Romney Marsh, England in 1854 emigrated from England in November 1876 to South Australia, where he settled and died in Willowie in 1904) had six children (a baby died only three weeks old), one daughter being Alice (1885-1981). She married Robert Barrie at Willowie in 1908 — their wedding photo and other photographs of Alice can be seen elsewhere on this WoodLooker website. Their second child – the first son – was Robert Aldsworth Barrie born on 28 February 2025 who thus in 2002 at Orroroo, South Australia, celebrated his 90th birthday. The photograph below was taken on that occasion, where he is seen with his three sons, Robert Paul (b.1945) Peter (b. 1947) and Donald (b. 1948) Barrie. Also on the right in this photograph is his younger brother Jack Barrie (b. 1915).
Yet this photograph is especially poignant, for merely six months after it was taken Bob most sadly died at 3am on Friday 6 September 2002. The funeral was held at Willowie on 10 September 2002, when memories of their father were read by Bob’s sons, the text provided [here].
